Merry Belated Christmas!

Hello dear readers! Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas, I know I did.  I am currently writing this post on one of my greatest Christmas presents, a new laptop! Over the long weekend my darling sister informed me that my blog is boring because I never write anything and that is why I'm making a resolution to post at least once a week in the new year (don't hold me to it).
For those of you that have already taken down your decor here are some images to put you back in the holiday spirit for a little while longer :)

Cubicle Sweet Cubicle

Last week I started a new job in which I get my very own cubicle! Being me I wanted to decorate it to reflect my style and make it a little more cozy. This weekend I spent a little time crafting and shopping for items that would make my space unique. I found this amazing "salesmans kit" suitcase at a flea market and  thought it would make a fantastic desk organizer.

I also wanted to use it as a file folder holder so I found this metal shelf that sits perfectly on top...

With a little help from my Dad we cut out the middle bar using wire cutters and also used an electric grinder to smooth the jagged edges. I removed the legs and simply placed the shelf on top of the case to create a divider. And here you have it, my new desk organizer!

Not wanting to be wasteful I also used the legs from the shelf as a pin board of sorts...

I wrapped the "legs" in yarn and used some adorable mini wooden clothespins to hang my inspirational phrases which can be found on Pinterest.  You can also find the tutorial for my DIY mousepad here. I traced a picture frame for my template.
Last but not least I made a bulletin board to compliment my decor...

and that my friends is how you turn your work space from boring to beautiful!

Get Organized!

My nightstand in my bedroom has been somewhat of a "catch all" for many months now..books, jewelry, perfumes and more.  I hate to say I was too ashamed to even take a before picture (yes it was that bad!).  But this is what it currently looks like after some organizing
Don't you think I need more jewelry? :)

I already had hooks hanging for my necklaces but needed to add something more for all the bracelets and earrings.  I didn't want to purchase anything new so I just worked with what I had around the house. I used a picture frame that I had decoupaged years ago and simply tied some yarn around the glass to create a hanger for my earrings.

After quickly filling the frame I discovered I needed more hanging space so I hung a chain on the wall for the rest of my earrings.  With bracelets spilling all over the place I wanted to find a way to stack them.  I decided to use an old candlestick that was hidden away in a cabinet.

Now I just need to tackle the rest of the house!

Quick and Easy Update

A few days ago I bought a new tool
because I thought my dining chairs needed a little facelift.  The electric is so much easier to use than a regular staple gun, I love it!

I found a great tablecloth at Kohl's that has just about every color you could imagine and decided it would add the perfect splash of color I was looking for.

This is what my chairs looked like before

and after

I thought about changing the fabric on my arm chairs but decided I liked the way the new fabric looked with them.

Stay tuned to find out what I'm going to do with my new tool and this great chair I found for only $10!

Temple Rubbings

Yesterday I went to an estate sale not looking for anything in particular, and instantly fell in love with a set of vintage temple rubbings.  I was told they are original pieces from Thailand dating back to the 1960's.

Over the years, the Thai goverment became aware that the rubbing process was damaging the wall carvings and the artform was banned.  I'd like to believe mine are authentic and that I have a little piece of history hanging on my walls...
but even if they aren't I still think they are AWESOME!

$5 Table

Last week I was shopping at my favorite thrift store and found a table that I thought would be perfect for my patio..

With a little spray paint, scrapbook paper, and Mod Podge I turned it into this

Pretty cute, don't you think?

Flea Market Finds

I saw these pet food canisters on Frongate's website a few months ago and thought they were such cute way to store dog food.
Not wanting to spend $60 on dog food storage I decided to make my own.

I went the vintage route and found this old trash can for $10..

and freehandedly painted the words on myself.

Using a stencil would have been ideal but I was too impatient to put that together :)

Another great find was an old crib

which I turned into a rack for hanging purses using nails.
Eventually I'd like to replace the nails with knobs or hooks, but they work for now!

Pretty in Pink

FINALLY!   I am so excited to announce that I have created a blog after procrastinating for MONTHS!  This blog will be about decorating, crafting, and whatever else my heart desires.

I've been working on a little project this past week for a friend's birthday.  The theme of the party was pink..my least favorite color.  However this is a friend I love dearly and wanted to give her the best pink party she's ever had!  I started out thrift shopping and picking up random candle holders..

After using only two bottles of spray paint the mismatched candle holders turned into something fabulously pink..

Until next time..happy crafting everyone!
